Use a soft tape measure, snug but not tight. Two steps:

1. Band size — measure around your ribcage right under your bust. Round to the nearest even number — that's your band.
2. Cup size — measure around the fullest part of your bust. Subtract your band measurement. Each inch of difference is one cup (1" = A, 2" = B, 3" = C, 4" = D, 5" = DD, and so on).

If you fall between sizes, most ILARIA customers size up for a softer feel.

Yes, in most cases. Wireless bras feel softer at a slightly looser band. Shapewear stays comfortable longer when it isn't fighting you.

The exception is firm shapewear meant for events — for those, your usual size keeps the sculpted feel.

The band should sit horizontally across your back — not riding up toward your shoulder blades. You should be able to fit two fingers underneath, no more.

If the band rides up: too loose. If two fingers don't fit: too tight. A good band carries about 80% of the weight of your bust, which is why getting it right matters more than the cup.

Almost always a band issue, not a strap issue. Bra straps are only meant to do about 20% of the support work — when the band is too loose, the straps take over and end up cutting in.
